Entry's Keep On Comin

We're up to 34 challengers so far!!!!  That is so awesome!!!  The downside..............You guys are way too quiet.  Send me something. Anything !!   Don't let Cheeseburger boy be the only trash talker!!!   He thinks he's gonna whoop all of you!!!   Send me your goals, the diet you plan on sticking to, exercise plan, c'mon send me something.

Cheesburgers diet plan so far is cutting down on the size of the cheeseburgers he eats.  Last night I get a text showing me that he ran 3 miles on the treadmill.  Ok now, Cheeseburger + Treadmill does not = weightloss:)
Oh and get this, his dinner drink..............Chocolate Milk!!!!

I'm guessing he didn't major in nutrition.   Fiesta Fatty I'm sure will add some pressure to CheeseBoy.  He'll be on a bread and water diet soon.

I hope everyone has had a good 2011 so far:)    I've got my green tea sitting right here along with my two bananas for breakfast.  Not sure what I'm doing for lunch yet.

Don't be such a pansy when it comes to dieting.  Nobody's gonna starve to death.  Grab some nuts to snack on, some grapes, an apple.  Don't grab the snickers bar.  Remember if your haven't had positive results in the past, don't expect better results unless you change something.  You've got to step it up.  When I was racing bikes a bit more seriously, no eating after 6pm is what made the biggest difference in my weight.  It was also the toughest part of the day to diet.  When you get home from work, all you want to do is snack.  Go for a walk (I know it's cold), do some exercises in the house.  Stay out of the kitchen and away from the sofa.  Heck, do some laundry............by hand:) (just kidding).

Do more than what you normally do.

Trash Talking Has Begun

What's more fun then a nice friendly challenge???  Well it's the trash talking of course.  Idaho Spud Muffin and Fiesta Fatty are bringing their game, or should I say at least they talk like they're gonna bring it.:)   Actually Idaho Spud has a new nick name, Cheeseburger Boy.  I won't tell you how he got the new name, unless he give's me permission sometime to tell you.  I walked into my office today and guess what I found on my desk, a bag of Snickers candy.  I don't have proof but I'm guessing Cheeseburger is trying to sabotage my efforts:).   If I had his address, I'd have a pizza delivered to his house this evening.

Then there's Fiesta.  I'm a bit more worried about her.  She seems like one of those people that hate's to lose so I'm a bit more concerned about her at the moment.  Not to mention, I have to wash her car if she beats me.  I'm sure though that after Cheeseburger reads this he too will up the ante.

Anyway, if you haven't got on board yet, get with it.  Have some fun.  Talk some trash.  Bring it on!
I want to see some people dropping the pounds!!!!

Happy New Year

So did you come up with some New Year's Resolutions?  I've got a pretty good list going and have it all on my phone so that I can remind myself everyday what I should be working towards.  I'm not the guru of goal making, but the one thing I know and believe is that if you don't write them down, you're not too serious about reaching them.  When writing them, you have to be clear and precise.  For example, you can't just write, "Stick to my diet".  You need to break it down.  What kind of diet, what exactly are you going to allow yourself to eat?  Give yourself rewards for reaching certain mile markers.  If I make it through a week successfully eating everything I should and avoiding the foods I shouldn't eat, I reward myself with my favorite Starbucks' drink on Friday mornings.

I think I mentioned this earlier but if dieting is one of your 2011 goals, you really can't look at it as a diet.  Most people think of dieting as a punishment or some brutal passage they must go through to look better in their clothes.  You've got to look at it as lifestyle change.  My office manager told me a saying that I really like, "Nothing taste's as good as skinny feels".    I know I would feel better 10 lbs lighter.  I know I feel better when I'm eating better.  2011 is going to be a good year.

One more thing while writing your goals.  Define ways on how your going to reach those goals.  One of my goals is to keep my work car and personal car clean.  It's a small goal but it drives me crazy getting in my car and I've got stuff in every seat.  So I'm setting aside some time every Saturday to clean my car and have it ready for the week.   For each goal you set, you should have a detailed plan on how your going to reach that goal.  Find ways to stay motivated, avoid getting back into the rut of daily life.  Step it up in 2011.

More and more entries are coming in every day for the Weight Loss Challenge.  It's going to be a fun competition.  Remember, most of us will be starting on January 3rd but if you haven't signed up and want to, you have until the 15th of January.  Ok here's the first give away.  The first person to send me 3 of their goals for 2011, I'll send you a $20 gift card to Starbucks (if you don't drink coffee, their caramel apple cider is awesome).  Either comment to this post or send me an email (mail@alphaoxymed.com).  Sign it with your Challenge User Name, be sure to include your email address.

Have a great January 1!!!  It's cold!!  It was -8 at my house at 7am this morning.  Good day to watch hockey and football and drink lots of hot tea.

Weighed In

Well I checked my weight this morning, shockingly I haven't gained as much as I thought.  With all the crap I've been eating I thought for sure I would be upwards of 180 but I'm at 173.5.  I've still got a couple of days to hit 175:).

Being a cyclist as well as a Lance Armstrong fan, I like to support his Livestrong organization.  This was on my email this morning (click here).  I think after you look at one "how to lose" article, you've looked at them all.  I think (my own personal opinion) if you just cut out the sugar and cut way down on serving size, then your bound to lose some weight.  If there's a soda sitting in your desk right now, hmmmm, no comment.  Go get some water or some green tea.   Add some exercise to that then your good to go.  Remember, your heart rate has to be elevated for at least 30 minutes to make any sort of dent in your conditioning.

It's a pain in the rear to do this, but keep a log of everything you eat throughout the day.  You will be amazed at how the calories just add up.  Also look at the quality of the food your eating.  If its full of words you cant pronounce then work on adding more natural foods to your diet.   You can't go wrong eating food that is nourished by the sun.

Have a super day.  Gotta go shovel some snow.

Movin Right Along

Went to Phoenix last night with my 8 year old to watch our first hockey game.  It was so cool.  We've been to a bunch of D-Back games and were definitely a baseball family but I'll take watching a hockey game live any day.  There were no dull moments.  Always something going on.  The action was awesome!

Anyway, while I was down there, my phone beeped with our first official challengers.  I am loving some of the names people are coming up with,  Skinny Me, Monkey, Big Mamma, PinkBerry, and Big Mac!!  I love it!!!  I'm looking forward to getting started.  I just found out today that my wife wants to be on a team with me.  Though I'm not allowed to win, this could get dicey.  My wife, God love her, has the motivation of a turtle and I've never ever seen her try and commit to a diet.  It could be interesting.

Remember that as we move forward I'd like for you to send me updates as to your current weight.  Just use the mail@alphaoxymed.com address and be sure to sign it with your challenge name. I'm going to check my weight at the office tomorrow.  I bet I've gained at least ten lbs since Thanksgiving.  I'll be sure to let you all know.

I'm not sure how personal I should make this blog but for now I'll just type away whatever I'm thinking about.  Now if some of you see me at the hospital (the 39 yo guy with the "frosted" hair (midlife crisis) and delivering some sort of DME product) don't hold any of this against me.

Typically I never (and I mean never) go without a shirt, not even at home (don't ask), but last night at the hotel, brushing my teeth before bed, in front of the mirror, and yes with no shirt on, I thought to myself "Dear God is that another roll or am I just leaning over a bit more than usual.  I've never had a six pack for abs, but for once, I would just love to see some sort of definition around my midsection.  Last year I paid a trainer to help me with my abs (therapy for my back).  We were upwards of about 500 reps of total ab work every day.  I could do crunches all day long, yet you couldn't see one ounce of muscle any where near my gut.   There was absolutely no point to all that babbling but like I said, just gonna type what I'm thinking.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the challenge.  If for anything, to see how many of you progress towards your goals.  If you feel like sharing any of your goals with me, please send me an email or comment at the end of this post.  Hope you have a good evening.  Looking forward to seeing how much snow is on the ground in the morning.  Good night.
