Spiritual Running?
I'm not a runner but came across this cool little write up in Kristin Armstrong's blog.
Cool huh??
And for you single moms out there, Kristen rocks!!! What an amazing woman, mother, person!!! Lance, what were you thinking!!!!!!
"When you run, there are no mistakes, only lessons. The art and science of ultra running is a process of trial, error, and experimentation. The failed experiments are as much a part of the successes as the combination that eventually works.
Lessons will be presented in various forms and intensities. Each lesson will be repeated until it is learned. When you have learned one lesson you will be presented with another.
The learning of lessons does not end. There is no part of your running experience that does not contain lessons. Each time you run there are lessons to be learned.
Life's answers lie within. Life's questions can be answered from within. Running is the medium through which these answers will be revealed. All you have to do is look, listen, feel and trust.
As you advance to greater challenges, you will continue to gain knowledge of yourself. Periodically you will be required to reach ever deeper in to your inner being, seeking out the strength needed to continue the endeavor of the moment. The strength you seek is layered within. The number of layers in infinite. All you have to do is believe, have faith in yourself, and expect to find that which you seek."

Monday again???
Is it really Monday already??? I need one more day added to the weekend. Saturday was really pretty unproductive, but yesterday I kicked some butt updating our policies and procedures. My goal is to be finished by the end of November so that my staff and I can go over all of them and make sure we are compliant and are doing everything we need to be doing. After that, I will submit them all to our accreditation organization then all we can do is be as prepared as possible for our unannounced survey.
The only thing that stinks about this whole accreditation thing is that no matter how good you are or how good the company is doing, if it's not on paper, then it's assumed that you didn't do it. My guys going the extra mile for a patient is not something we document. It's become a "cover your ass" world. I understand the reasoning behind it, but it sucks that this is what our world as come down to. Document this, document that, prove it, prove it, prove it.
No longer can a doctor just write a prescription ordering a product. Now he has to send us a ton of paperwork proving why the patient needs it. So what that the guy was turning blue in the doctor office, prove to me why he needs oxygen and justify why they guy is blue. This is the kind of crazy stuff we have document.
A few months ago I had to prove why I provided a power chair to a quadriplegic. I must have sent 30 pages to medicare justifying why this guy couldn't use a manual wheelchair. C'mon people, at least use common sense when it comes to auditing claims.
What's crazy though is that with all the crazy bureaucracy and hoops we have to jump through, I can't see myself doing anything else. It's sometimes pretty stressful, but most of the time the difference you are making easily counter balances the crap we have to deal with.
On the weight loss note, first, no I haven't lost a friggin pound. Second, I'm now officially as round as I am tall. I finally bit the bullet and went bought pants size 34x34. In college I wore 29 x 36. I'm shrinking and expanding!!
I picked up the new TV and DVR on Saturday which will go in the suite next to us. I'm going to offer to all of those that participate in the challenge this year, an opportunity so set up their bike on a trainer as well as join in the Insanity workouts in the evenings. Working out is definitely more fun with a group.
Oh and speaking of working out, I get this text from Newell this weekend asking me to do the Leadville 100 with him. First of all, 100 miles on a mountain bike is just plain torture. Second, my back barely tolerates 20-30 miles on a road bike. They say that 100 miles on a mountain bike is about equivalent to 200 on a road bike. That's just crazy!! Even Lance says this is one of the hardest races he has ever done. All that said, I let him put my name in the hat. I figured it would motivate me to hit the back rehab a little harder. Now I just hope and pray they don't draw our names:).
Well I need to get some work done. Hope you all have a great day.

Gotta Vent
Today I need to vent a little about something. Ok I realize this has nothing to do with work, but in a round about way, since it has to do with me and I own the company, I'm gonna write about it:) .
As I've said many times before and I realize it's really nobody's business, but I whole heartedly believe in God. I believe He created all the beautiful things around us and is always "watching" over us. I won't bore you (at least not in this post) with all my opinions as they really have nothing to do with this, but here it goes. Yesterday my 12 yo son's teacher/principal sent home this survey asking about "texting etiquette". By this I mean the questions pertained to the rules we have at home regarding cell phones and texting. What times are you allowed to text, do your parents check your texts, how often do they check your phone, what kind of texts are morally correct, etc. There were a few more but these are what I remember at the moment.
It's a house rule that we know the passwords to any and all electronic devices around the house. We (my wife and I) are allowed to check these devices at any time and we do. We monitor what kind of music the kids have on their ipods. We limit the amount of time each of them are allowed to use the computer, ipod, etc. If they abuse it, they lose it. I'll be the first to tell you my kids have it way better than I ever had it. I want them to, yet I want them to learn the value of work. It's not an easy road to travel. There's a lot of middle ground, but we do our best to keep them grounded and not take things for granted.
Anyway, we have rules. My problem with the survey..............what business is it of the teachers what rules we have for our kids? Good parents have rules and they have consequences, but how we make up these rules and what we do to enforce them is no business of a teachers or a schools.
I'm not done complaining. My kids go to a Christian school. It's a small school and the education is excellent. I went to Blue Ridge all my life and feel I had a pretty good education, but the public school system is no where near what it used to be. I realize that by sending them to a private Christian school, there are going to be a wide array of opinions on what is taught, after all, even being a Christian is today's world is not very easy. There are opinions everywhere.
When I was little kid I grew up going to the Baptist church. Then in high school I started going to the Catholic church. Once I hit college I found that I really enjoyed a local nondenominational church. Why did I like it? The music rocked!! As a college kid it really allowed me a way to connect with my God. Oh and one more item, remember I was a biology and chemistry major. If you want to find a ton of people who doubt God, just go to a college biology building. Scientists and Creationist just really never seem to agree on much. I'm saying all this to basically explain that I have a pretty open mind when it comes to what people believe. Doesn't God himself tell us not to judge others?? Who are the worst about judging others? People and their religions. God is God. I don't know if the dude is tall short, black or white, English or French, I have no clue. I do know that He's pretty friggin amazing though. He does, after all seem to put up with all my pathetic issues.
There are a lot of beautiful people in this world. Each one is a child of God. Whether it be a little kid in Africa who has never heard of the Bible or some punk ass teen in south LA, each is a blessing from God. Who are we as humans to judge anyone? We have no clue what another person has been through, why they are the way they are or why they believe what they do. I'm sure in the end we will all realize the Plan God has for us. As for now though, isn't it up to us to make the world a better place? Not by pushing our beliefs on others, but for loving and respecting one another. God is all about Love! Nothing less nothing more. His greatest commandment is Love. If we succeed with that, then everything else falls into place.
Ok I'm rambling, but my point is, I want my kids to grow up open minded. I want them to love and respect others. Do I want them to worry about whether or not were "saved" by faith or works? Absolutely not. You can't have one without the other so why bother with the argument? I don't want my kids growing up judging others. We all fall short of the Glory of God. It's not rocket science to see that most of us fall way short. Yet like any good loving Father, God sets us straight and lets us move on to our next screw up.
I think I've really talked in circles about this, but hey, I feel better now about my original complaint:). It's time for me to get back to working on my overly fun accreditation material.
Hope you all have a super day. Oh and Hey Danielle!!!! Have you had that baby yet?? Did you get the footballs and baseball glove??? Hope you and your growing family are doing great.

One more thing
Hey!!!!!!!!!!!! Go hug your kids!!! I don't care if they have been a pain all morning, they forgot to do their homework, they whined about their chores.......whatever they may have done, remember, today your kids and you woke up healthy!!!! You are blessed!!!!! Make the most of it!!!!! Live it to the fullest people!!!
Ok I'm going to bed now.
Ok I'm going to bed now.
Winter is Here.
Looks like winter is upon us. What a gorgeous today, makes it feel like the Christmas season. I'd love to say I was sitting in my warm office today watching it snow, but nooooo, I was out back filling tanks all day. Our fill plant is inside one of those big steel containers, you know, one of those things that looks like it just came off the back of a train. We chose the steel container as the local fire department said it would be the safest way to go. I mean, if youre going to blow something up, what's better than being stuck in a solid metal container? The down side, especially this time of year, this thing has no insulation. It's nothing but solid cold steel. On top of that, remember we're working with liquid oxygen which I think is something like minus 297 degrees. Uhhh that's beyond cold. Well, when you put cold steel, cold weather, and liquid oxygen together you get a lot of frozen things that are covered with frost. Ok, I'm making it sound worse than it really is, but after filling 160 tanks which took me until about 6pm this evening, I was a bit frozen. I had two of those oil heaters going, and they didn't do a darn thing except for run my electric bill up.
So, guess what were doing next week.......we're going to enclose the entire steel container inside a wooden insulated shell. That's right, I'm gonna be warm this winter. This is how bad it got today. We can fill 20 tanks at a time. At a certain pressure we spray this "special" solution of leak detector (they call it special so they can charge me 50 bucks a gallon) on the valve of each tank to be sure there are no leaks. After the tank is full and taken off of the line, we spray the valve one more time just to be sure it's not leaking while the valve is closed. Well at about 5pm tonight I went to spray one of my last batches and guess what......the leak solution was frozen!!! So to finish up, I had to go mix the formula with a bit of warm water just to get me through the next few batches. By the end of the evening, my nose and my toes were pretty much frozen. I'll be looking forward to my new insulated fill plant very soon. Maybe if it's warm enough, I'll just move my office out there for the winter:) .
On another note, being that the roads are very frozen, it doesn't look like I'll be riding outside in the morning. I've already brought in the dreaded trainer from the garage. I really hate riding indoors, but right now my chubby ass needs all the help I can get. So at 5 am, I'll be pedalin' my rear off in front of the tv. I'm looking forward to the next weight loss challenge. I'm amazed at how hard of a time I've had losing a single pound. Remember, a few posts ago I mentioned that the owners of my building are going to let me use a suite to work out in? Well guess what.... the 40 inch TV will arrive on Friday:)!!!! Originally I was just going to set up the bike trainers in there, but now I think I'm also going to have the Insanity Work Out in there as well. So for all you folks looking forward to the challenge....You're going down!!!!! I'm going to woop you all. I'm going to fit in my little tiny bikini by next summer:) That is a horrible thought, even to myself. There's a nightmare in the making. Ugh!!!!
Ok, it's getting late, the little glass of chocolate wine (it's yummy) is started to make me a bit tired. Gotta get up in six hours. Hope you all have a good night a great day tomorrow.

Brrr it's cold
I started off today with a 6 am bike ride with Ben. It was a balmy 21 degrees when I left my house. Crazy as it may sound, I really enjoyed the ride. I dressed almost perfectly and with the exception of my toes, I stayed just warm enough to be comfortable. Ben on the other hand, showed up in shorts and these wimpy little gloves. The guy is a friggin attorney, and one of the best friends I could ever ask for, but he's too much of a tight wad to spend money on some warm cycling clothes. Maybe if he gets cold enough, it's motivate him to spend a little.
I'm home today with Keevan (my 3 yo) and should be working on my policies and procedures. It's 1pm and I'm just now sitting down at the computer. Some days I'm just not motivated to sit at a desk. Even after I'm done posting this little update, I'm not so sure I've convinced myself to get any work done (though I have done 3 loads of laundry so far:) ,,,I'm going for that husband of the year award thing........Not!!!!
My makeshift desk (it'll be an official home office one day) at the moment allows me to see our entire back yard and instead of realizing how nice it is, I'm sitting here realizing how much work needs to be done back there. The only nice thing I'm looking at is a huge tree house that my dad and father in law built for my kids one Christmas. Other than that and two huge pine trees (which hold up the big tree house) there's not a whole lot to sit and enjoy this time of year, leaves and pine needles everywhere.
I must say, that when I can look past all the paper work I should be doing right now, I really enjoy my time at home with Keev. He's such a fun little guy. This morning we headed down to the bike shop to pick up a few tubes and some more warm clothes. Todd has a little playroom in the back for his kids and apparently Keevan spends so much time at the shop he made himself right at home and headed straight for the play room. Not 30 seconds later, here he comes with a little stroller full of stuffed animals telling me that Elmo was hungry and that he was going to cook him some lunch. Gotta love the innocence of a child.
I have no idea how many people read this blog anymore. I've looked at the stats and see that some of you poor souls still torture yourselves with this boring material, but the stats tell me nothing about where all these readers reside. If you work at the hospital or one of the doctors offices we service, I'm letting you know now that were going to have another weight loss challenge after the holidays. Lord knows I need the motivation. One cool thing that I'm going to try and offer during the challenge is a workout time in the mornings. What I mean by that, is the owners of the building where Alpha Oxy-Med is, have agreed to let me rent a smaller suite for the winter. I'm going to put a flat screen TV in there and try to offer either P90x or Insanity in the mornings. I'm not sure if I can make this happen, but I'm going to give it a shot.
I've got so many things that I want to do, I just don't have the time (or make the time) to sit down and do them. One thing that we have done every year during the holidays is provide 5-6 meals for families that just don't have the money to have a good Thanksgiving dinner. If you know of anyone in either the Pinetop Show Low area, the Snowflake Taylor area, or the Eagar St. Johns area, please send me an email with their name, address, and phone number and I'll do my best to make sure we make their holiday a little more joyous.
Well I guess I better get back to work (or start some work) or maybe throw in another load of laundry. Maybe I'll just go play cars with Keevan:). Anyway, hope you all have a great day. Stay warm, It's supposed to snow tomorrow.
